Christmas Cheerboard Campaign

Each year, our Student Chapter hosts a series of Pancake Breakfasts within both Engineering and University Centre at the University of Manitoba to raise funds to create 5 hampers for Winnipeg families. This year, our Pancake Breakfasts will be held from November 30 to December 2, so make sure to bring some change and a big appetite!

Movember Campaign

During November each year, Movember is responsible for the sprouting of moustaches on thousands of men’s faces, in Canada and around the world. With their “Mo’s”, these men raise vital funds and awareness for men's health, specifically prostate cancer. Our Student Chapter participated in the annual fundraising but assembling a team and collecting donations. Check out December's newsletter to see the result of one month of growing!

Bike Build Project

Our Student Chapter continues to work on its Bike Build Project within 2011; the goal of the Bike Build Project is to provide 20 under-privileged junior high school students within Winnipeg with newly rebuilt bikes, locks, and helmets. To do this, the Student Chapter will be refurbishing salvaged bicycles from the Winnipeg Repair Educational and Cycling Hub (WRENCH)  and will administer an afternoon bike workshop that educates the students about proper bike maintenance and road safety.

To attain these goals we will be completing the following steps:
  • Step 1 (complete): The Winnipeg Repair Education and Cycling Hub (WRENCH) donated bicycles to be rebuilt by the Student Chapter.
  • Step 2 (need $): Student Chapter members will invest their time to rebuild these bikes over the winter. Rebuilding old and damaged bicycles is a great way to save costs and divert waste from landfills. Sadly many of the bicycles will still need new seats, tires, cables, and chains.
  • Step 3 (need $): Purchase locks and helmets for each bicycle. Helmets play an essential role for the safety of cyclists and locks ensure that the bicycles stay with the owner.
  • Step 4 (May, 2012): The ITE Student Chapter will administer an afternoon bike workshop where 20 students are provided with newly rebuilt bikes, locks, and helmets.
